Department of Mathematics and Computer Science

ACADEMIC STATUS

The department operates re-designed curricula (Mathematics and Computers Science) benchmarked with the highest standards in the world in accordance with the current NUC BMASS to capture intensive, hands-on coursework with a rigorous training that will give our students a holistic view of the field of application of Mathematics and Computer Science to Science and Engineering to ensure global competition and relevance. The depth and breadth of our program with the re-designed curriculum will provide understanding of how to solve problems with a focus on modeling and abstraction.

We now focus on open ended problem solving to prepare our students for success in a wide range of industries as applicable in the oil and Gas industries to creating indigenous technologies for self-reliance. The department also has a strong ICT system unit in use in its administration specifically to reduce the running cost information dissemination. Over the years, our student intake has been on a steady increase.

A new programme in Statistics is proposed and it’s currently under consideration. It is my hope that when approved it will enhance the mission and vision of the university. In addition, postgraduate studies in Mathematical and Computer Sciences from Postgraduate Diploma to Doctoral level will soon commence.

Our students explore subjects critical to advancement in today’s high-tech society – from computational mathematics, mathematical computer theory to applied mathematics, software engineering, control and communication theory, artificial intelligence, and robotics
