FUNCTIONS OF THE SECURITY UNIT
The Security Unit is saddled with the responsibility of securing the University Community, applying robust measures of anticipatory, proactive and preventive techniques to forestall any disruption to the smooth academic and social pursuit of the University. To achieve this, a cordial and beneficial relationship with the Staff and Students on the one hand, the surrounding host Communities and Contractors on the other hand, and relevant security agencies such as the Police, Army and other Intelligence arms of the State is cardinal.
The functions of this unit are:
1. Plan and ensure execution of security arrangement as required by the University Management.
2. To assist the University authorities in maintaining law and order.
3. To maintain liaison with the Nigeria Police Force, District Authorities, Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigerian Army (222 Battalion, Agbarha-Otor) regarding challenges of law and order and investigation of criminal cases affecting the University.
4. Ensure effective protection of lives and properties at all the University locations.
5. Plan for and ensure effective management of security for events organized by the University.
6. Supervise the performance, operations or behavior of third party security services provided and ensures that security services are provided to meet University expectations within budget limits.
7. Identify security threats and vulnerabilities; formulating security measures to provide sound security standards and procedures to counter the threats in the campus.
8. Advice and guide students and staff on security awareness, policy, procedure and practice.
9. Direct and coordinate escort duties for transit of top Management Staff.
