The center is a result of industrial collaboration between the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun and the maritime and offshore industries. The goal of the center is to teach courses with national and international recognition.
COURSES OFFERED IN THE CENTER
The diving certifications are targeted towards commercial diving. CMOS diving school is programmed to teach subjects related to commercial SCUBA diving to 30 meter, Class 1 Commercial Diver (Basic Surface Supplied Air Diving to 30m) and Class 2 Commercial Diver (Advanced Surface Supplied Air Diving to 50m).
A class 2 diver can further pursue his careers an inspection diver, diver medic, diver supervisor e.t,c.
The Offshore Pipeline Technology Training course is now introduced by the Center for Maritime and Offshore Studies of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources in Effurun. The goal of the course is to provide sufficient understanding of the offshore pipelines from the Front End Engineering Design of pipelines, through construction, installation, IRM (Inspection, Repair and Maintenance) and offshore pipeline facility management. The course is intended for graduates, pipeline industry managers and oil and gas workers with keen interests on offshore pipelines.
The training will be performed by experts from the pipeline industry. Less mathematics will be involved with more emphasis on practicalities and present concerns on pipelines, especially in Nigeria. Students will have a pipeline facility tour on the fourth (4th) day of the programme. The programme is coordinated at the University of the Petroleum Resources, Effurun in collaboration with Global Maritime Academy in Ughelli.
Generally, pipelines shall be discussed with more emphasis on offshore pipelines.
Center for Maritime and Offshore Studies is associating with IDSA (International Diving School Association) and EDTC (European Diving Technology Committee) leading to International Maritime Contractors Association (IMCA) accreditation to provide world Grade certification to our students. Our students qualify to work not only in Nigerian waters but in other parts of the globe. The center is also working with International Maritime Organisation (IMO) through Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
